The municipality of Hartl is located in the East Styrian hill country south of Hartberg
The municipalities of Großhart and Hartlund Tiefenbach were merged into a new municipality on January 1st, 2015. The new municipality is called "Hartl", has 2,140 inhabitants and covers an area of 3,373 hectares.
