Miesenbach bei Birkfeld

Experience the fascination of the water mill up close.

Along  a waterway of the narrow Miesenbach, you can find the Hornschmied Mill as a testimony to a long-gone era. Many mills along the stream disappeared as electrification took hold. Grinding was done at home. The mill resisted this development, simply driving the millstones with an electric motor.

In 1993, the old monument was completely renovated for the first time, the water wheel was rebuilt, and a foam mill was created.

For the guests, the Hornschmied Mill is certainly a wonderful, beautifully located reminder of how much work it used to take to produce daily bread.

The foam mill is now a place of relaxation and rest for hikers throughout the year.
