The place name Arzberg is derived from the mining of lead ore in the village, the first documented mention of which dates back to 1242.
The first church in Arzberg - presumably built by miners - was built when mining began. Until 1927, everything revolved around the mining of silver, lead and zinc, after which operations were discontinued due to a lack of income.
Parts of the mine are still accessible today and can be explored on a guided tour. Another part of the mine has been converted and now serves as a maturation store for the award-winning Stollenkäse made with milk from the region. The region is also ideal for hiking, and a tour through the Raabklamm gorge is particularly worthwhile.
