Moonlight tour at Herberstein Animal World

Once a month, a creepy shiver passes through the zoo when our wolf packs, the Hudson Bay wolves, the polar wolves, and the timber wolves howl at the moon! Besides the wolf families, the main actors in this guided tour through the animal kingdom are especially our crepuscular and nocturnal animals, which often remain hidden during the day.

Our nine-banded armadillos prefer nighttime activities in the house of the marmosets, where they live together in a shared community with the monkeys named after the famous composer Franz Liszt. During the day, they literally hide “curled up” in a corner.

Another prime example of nocturnal residents are our porcupines. During the day, they burrow under and rarely show themselves, but hardly does it get dark, they come out of their den and busily roam the enclosure. Numerous other animals from the continents Africa, America, Australia, and Eurasia showcase their specific preferences and habits.
