With Liliom, the Hungarian playwright Ferenc Molnár created one of the most impressive works of theater literature of the 20th century in 1909. Between the milieu of the Viennese suburbs, carnival atmosphere, and poetic fantasy, the play tells the story of the hawker Liliom - a charismatic, wild, and simultaneously deeply vulnerable man who fails due to himself and societal expectations.
