In its new arrangement for violin and two guitars, the internationally successful ensemble around the exceptional violinist Herwig Schaffner gives the four world-famous violin concertos a fresh and contemporary sound image. Scorching heat, biting cold, whispering winds, and raging storms: never before have natural phenomena been translated into sounds as beautifully, sensually, and vividly as in Antonio Vivaldi's "Four Seasons." The Venetian composer grouped four violin concertos together in 1725 under the common title: each a pinnacle of baroque mastery, all together the most famous sonic depiction of nature of all time. One violin (Herwig Schaffner) and two guitars (Peter Weiss and Georg Aichberger) provide Cobario the means to shape Vivaldi's art into a magnificent sound event that truly brings the baroque sound to life. Notes and rhythms are sharpened, unheard details coaxed out – and Vivaldi's effervescent temperament receives a modern drive. Cobario has arranged the complete cycle of the "Four Seasons" in its own version and has not skimped on lush sound rush: with 16 strings, the daring and audacious trio effortlessly stands up to an entire symphony orchestra and turns Vivaldi into a groovy event.
