The piece by Helmut Qualtinger and Carl Merz, first premiered as a television monologue in 1961, sparked nationwide discussions at the time. With the brutal portrayal of the so-called "average Austrian," the authors unveiled the mechanisms of opportunism, adaptation, and conformity in post-war Austria. To this day, "Der Herr Karl" is regarded as a sharp analysis of the Austrian soul – a mirror that we may not like to look into, but that we always need to. For times may change, yet some things remain. Or, to quote Brecht: "The womb is still fertile from which it crawled." Andreas Vitásek succeeds in making this monologue newly experiential with great intensity. His interpretation bridges the gap between the historical basis and our present – touching, provocative, and highly relevant.
OÖ Concert-Schrammeln
Since 1996, the old Viennese Schrammel music has been celebrated and efforts have been made to ensure that a unique piece of Austrian music history does not fall into oblivion. The musicians are also members of the Austrian Salonists, teachers in the OÖ. Landesmusikschulwerk, soloists, as well as chamber and orchestral musicians. They play original Schrammel music by Johann and Josef Schrammel, Mikulas, Sioly, the Sträußens, Ziehrer, Strohmayer, among others.
