Mettenschicht - revived tradition from the time of mining
The so-called “Mettenschicht” is a very old tradition of the miners. It was the last shift before Christmas, where the miners gathered together. The name refers to the Christmas mass that follows the last shift worked. There was traditional food and a festive devotion.
Together, the mining museum and the music association Ratten host this traditional pre-Christmas event. The area between the musicians' house and the mining museum appears - decorated with a lit Christmas tree, an open fire, and fairy lights - in pre-Christmas splendor.
This historical 'shift', the second since the end of mining in 1960 in Ratten and St. Kathrein/H., is accompanied by the miners' music and enriched with texts and thoughts by Christine Baumgartner and Franz Mögle.
Culinary offerings remain traditional. There are apple or dried pear bread and the popular 'Mettenjause', a lentil stew with sausage.

“Feeling the Christmas glow” with traditional treats, musical accompaniment by the duo “Ernst and Heinz”, Advent stories and book presentation with Sepp Grasmugg, and drawing for the prize draw of the “St. Nicholas Days of Rattener Business”
