The Story of Our House
Our SchiScho’s Lodge has already seen quite a bit over the years. The house was built back in 1657, making it one of the oldest buildings in St. Kathrein am Offenegg. In the local chronicles, it is listed as “House No. 19” and was formerly known as “vulgo Wagnerhansl.”
More than 360 years have passed since then. Many people have lived and worked here, each leaving their mark on the house. Over the generations, it was passed on, sold, altered and adapted time and again to suit the needs of the time. For us, this is exactly what gives the house its special charm: it was not newly invented, but has grown and evolved over centuries.
In 2024, we took over the house. By then, it was clear that the many years had taken their toll. But we quickly knew that we wanted to preserve this special place. So we began the renovation – with a great deal of hands-on work, countless hours and, at times, probably a little more patience than we had originally expected.
It was important to us not simply to replace everything old with something new. Wherever possible, we wanted to preserve the original character of the house while combining it with modern comfort. Step by step, today’s SchiScho’s Lodge came to life.
The name “Lodge” was a very deliberate choice for us. A lodge is not just a place to stay – it is also a starting point for an adventure. From here, you can head out into nature, explore the alpine pastures, discover new trails and experiences, and at the end of the day return to a place where you can arrive, unwind and simply enjoy the moment.
Today, this more than 360-year-old house is once again welcoming guests. And perhaps that is the most beautiful part of all: its story is far from over. With every stay, a small new chapter is added.

- Maximum occupancy: 5 guests
- Access to the lodge: Before arrival, our guests receive a personal access code, allowing them to enter the lodge easily and independently.
- Pets: Pets are not allowed.
- Smoking: Smoking is not permitted inside the lodge.
- Parties & events: Parties and events are not allowed.
- Catering: SchiScho’s Lodge is a self-catering accommodation.
- Children: Children of all ages are very welcome.

Check-in is available from 3:00 PM.
Before your arrival, you will receive a personal access code for the lodge. This allows you to check in easily and independently at any time after 3:00 PM.

We are Christina and Thomas, and we live together with our twins, Moritz and Amilia, in the beautiful Styrian region. Christina is a teacher, Thomas is an employee – and if time permits outside of work, family, and everyday life, we most enjoy nature and life here in Almenland.
