Trans Nationalpark Et 02 (Reichraming-Windischgarsten)

Closed
Right through the wilderness: crossing the wooded and lonely Kalkalpen National Park to the pretty climatic health resort of Windischgarsten.
This stage is all about the Kalkalpen National Park and thus the densely wooded, lonely low mountain landscape of the Reichraminger Hintergebirge and the Sengsengebirge. First you follow the valleys and gorges of the Reichraminger Bach and the Großer Bach before you reach the Ebenforstalm uphill through lonely forests and hills, which lies like an oasis in the middle of the forests. Now you descend a few hundred metres to the Scheiblingau in the middle of the Sengsengebriges. You follow the course of the Krummen Steyerling stream to the south past the farmed Jagahäusl and thus reach the only longer single trail passage in the entire Trans National Park, over which you reach the "Steyrsteg" - either pushing or riding. A final climb brings you to the Haslersgatter before you roll comfortably down to Windischgarsten.

The start of this stage is at the village square in Reichraming, exactly at the finishing point of the last stage. The first section is identical to the route of the previous day: You cycle along the asphalt road along the Reichramingbach towards Anzenbach. In Weißenbach, where you came from the right on the previous stage, you continue straight ahead to the Anzenbach car park. Here you turn right onto a no longer asphalted road and continue along the stream in the direction of "Brunnbach/Große Klause". At the next fork, turn right onto the forest road in the direction of "Große Klause" and soon afterwards turn right again onto another forest road in the direction of "Ebenforstalm". Now the 700-metre ascent to the Ebenforstalm begins: First following a ditch and then along slopes, you always follow the (only) forest road open to cyclists and thus reach the Ebenforstalm, which lies very idyllically like an oasis in the middle of the woods. It is managed and is ideal as a charging station for E-MTBs.

At the Ebenforstalm, keep to the right on a meadow path that leads you slightly uphill to a forest section with a forest road. Climb this very steeply for a short while and on the other side descend again briefly but steeply and rooty to a forest road (this short section, together with the single trail section that follows, is the most difficult section on the Tans National Park, but can also be pushed well). Follow the forest road down serpentines to the right until you reach the Bodinggraben. Once in the ditch, follow the forest road to the left at a fork, pass the "Scheiblingau" car park and along the ditch you will reach the "Jagahäusl", the second stop on this stage.

At the Jagahäusl, continue straight ahead and turn left at the next fork in the forest road towards the Schaumbergalm. Follow the forest road (and not the footpath) uphill until you reach a left-hand bend where a small cart track leads straight ahead. Follow the path uphill into the valley, which becomes narrower and narrower. The path becomes smaller and smaller and, after a left-right bend, develops into the single trail passage already mentioned: Now the path is quite narrow and gravelly and leads upwards along the rather steep slope. This section can be ridden by experienced mountain bikers - however, due to the steep slope on the right, we recommend pushing the bike if in doubt (the loss of time is limited). After a while, the surface changes from gravel to forest soil and you reach the small "Steysteg" saddle, where you come across a forest road again.

Follow the forest road straight on and you will soon reach the beautifully situated bivouac site Steyrsteg and continue uphill over a final climb to the car park Haselgatter. Go through the car park and follow the forest road straight ahead on the other side, past the Kleiner farmstead, until you reach a crossroads with many signposts. Follow the signs and turn right here and then right again at the next opportunity after a few metres.

Before the next farm, turn left onto a meadow path. This leads into a narrower cart track and a forest road that takes you along the Salzabach stream through the Salzatal valley.

At the end of the road you come to a T-junction with a car park where you turn left towards Windischgarsten. Leave Villa Sonnwend on your right (or turn into the route here if you have stayed overnight at Villa Sonnwend). Now follow the larger road (Salzastrasse) into the village of Windischgarsten. Now you reach the main road, which you follow to the left for just a few metres before turning left again onto Ufergasse. Soon you turn right over the little bridge where a small alley brings you to the finish of this stage between the Grassecker bakery and the Kemmetmüller Hotel.

Attention: This stage is one of the two longest and at the same time the most demanding of the entire Trans National Park. If you are travelling with an E MTB, use your battery carefully and do not ride at the highest level even with a 625 Wh battery. Or you can use one of the charging stations along the route. Only technically experienced mountain bikers are recommended to ride the 1 km long sliding/single trail section - otherwise it is better to master this section by pushing. In addition, there are a few short meadow and single trail sections on the route, which is otherwise on forest and asphalt roads throughout.
