Beautiful snowshoe tour in absolute tranquillity and seemingly untouched nature through the Jägertal valley around the Löwekogel and through the Lerchgraben.

Quiet snowshoe loop near Wildalpen through the secluded Jägertal valley and around the Löwekogel. The route runs mostly through forested terrain, is well marked and offers plenty of nature away from busy trails. Ideal for anyone looking for a varied winter tour in a peaceful setting.

From Vienna: A1 Westautobahn exit Ybbs via Wieselburg, Scheibbs and Lunz/See to Göstling an der Ybbs continue in the direction of Palfau, at the Erzhalden junction turn off to Wildalpen.

From Vienna, Eisenstadt: Semmeringschnellstraße S6, near Mürzzuschlag onto the B23 Mariazeller Bundesstrasse and Mürzsteg and Wegscheid to Gusswerk and on the Hochschwab Bundesstrasse B24 to Wildalpen.

From Linz: A1 to Voralpenkreuz junction, A9 to Windischgarsten, Unterlaussa, Altenmarkt, Grossreifling, Palfau and Wildalpen

From Salzburg: A1 on A9 to exit Ardning/Admont, Gesäusebundesstrasse and B24 to Wildalpen

From Graz: A9 Pyhrnautobahn, exit, Traboch (near Leoben) via Präbichl/Eisenerz, Hieflau, Landl, Gams to Palfau at the Erzhalden junction turn off to Wildalpen.

In Wildalpen after the church turn left over the Salza.

Keep left towards Hopfgarten, after the settlement there is a chapel on the left and a small car park with a sign "zum Keuscherl".

At Keuscherl we follow hiking trail 95 across the stream and into the Jägertal valley.

Well-marked, we follow a steep path through the forest around the Löwekogel until we reach the Lärchgraben. The trail continues downhill until it joins the main road.

Follow the main road to Wildalpen, take the first left to the end, pass the building yard and join the Doktosteigerl under the aqueduct and then left over the Salza. In Hopfgarten turn left onto part of the Hopfgartenrunde until you get back to the car.

The tour can be easily combined with the Burgstallort or the Löwekogel. This way you can also avoid the main road.
