Ennsbodenweg
General Information
Ennsbodenweg
The starting point of the tour is the Forstgarten campsite in the middle of the Gesäuse National Park. The path leads past the barrier on a gravel road to the Kummer Bridge. Between the rock walls of the Planspitze on one side and the Enns on the other side, it goes downstream. The path has some challenges, although there is hardly any elevation gain. The forest floor, dense vegetation, and crossings of the debris cone make the riverside hike more of an adventurous excursion into 'wild' nature. Time and again, the forest opens up views of the Enns and the steep northern walls, and below the Planspitze, one can assess the massive boulders from the rockfall in 2001. At that time, 20,000 m3 of rock fell into the depths, which corresponds to about 2500 truckloads.
Finally, from the reservoir of the Hieflau power plant, there is a beautiful view of the Großen Buchstein before reaching the destination parking lot at Kummer Bridge. The return to the campsite is then back along the same path.
