Festival Sankt Gallen:AlpenBossa - Lungau Big Band meets Sampaio und DeeLinde

It is extremely rare for a jazz orchestra to exist over such a long period, consistently presenting interesting programs, featuring renowned soloists from around the world, and inviting composers to write new music.

Thus, the Lungau Big Band has become one of the most active and remarkable jazz ensembles in the country, with alternating programmatic orientations that not only captivate the audience but also keep themselves engaged with a variety of musical demands in an infectious playing mood!

“With Flip-Flops in the Alps” – this was the title of the debut album by deeLinde & Emiliano Sampaio, presented in 2024 in the performance spaces on Ö1 by Johann Kneihs, which tells the story of the musical fusion of two far-flung music cultures.

With “Alpen Bossa,” the two continue this journey and expand their mutual cultural appropriation. A stunningly dynamic big band constantly twirls between alpine landscapes and Brazilian beaches.

Alpine yodels and mountain songs fuse with choros, hot rhythms, and thirds. Coconuts and kidney beans revel in delicious kernel oil.

With “AlpenBossa,” the Lungau Big Band, together with the DUO, sets new markers in music history and tempts listeners into a dual-intercultural sound experience.
