Excursion: On the Trail of Global Disasters and the Formation of the Alps in the Geopark Styrian Eisnwurzen
Content: The geological excursion in the Geopark Gams offers geology to touch and understand. The hike leads around Gams near Hieflau. At several stations along the geological path, the rocks are introduced, and past life worlds such as tropical reefs and lagoons, as well as disasters like the impact of an asteroid at the end of the Cretaceous period millions of years ago, are made comprehensible. To conclude, the GeoRama Museum in Gams will be visited with a guided tour.
Goal: Based on the rocks, fossils, and geological structures in the Geopark and parts of the geological path, past living environments are vividly illustrated, and basic geological knowledge about the Alps is conveyed. Simple methods for identifying rocks and recognizing geological structures will be practiced. Regional knowledge of geology, especially of the Northern Limestone Alps, will be developed.
Requirements: Weatherproof clothing and sturdy footwear, drinks and snacks as needed.
