Naturfreundehütte Palfau
Information
A cabin, two names, and plenty of views
On weekends, nature lovers of all kinds come alive. Then one hikes to the cozy nature friends' cabin in the Gesäuse to take a look at Palfau from above.
At 1,020 meters above sea level, the nature friends' cabin (also known as Bergbauern-Lackneralm) is located. To get there, one sets off from the Bergbauer farm in Palfau. The trail marked 283 is the target, and the cabin is reached after an hour of walking. While it is actually a rustic self-catering cabin with a mattress dormitory for 16 people, the alpine lodge serves as a rest station for hikers and nature lovers on weekends from mid-May to October.
Round trips
The cabin is particularly popular due to the highly anticipated ascent to Gamsstein at 1,774 meters, for which one should take an hour and a half from the cabin. A circular hiking trail is also inviting. It is indeed possible to walk for six hours from Palfau via the nature friends' cabin, Gamsstein, and Moaralm back to Palfau while enjoying the sights of one natural beauty or another.
Good views
Bikers on the Buchsteinrunde also appreciate the cabin's location and the view of Salzatal and the Gesäuse Mountains. These greet you from all sides, and a friendly "Griaß di" has never harmed anyone. But someone else also wants to be noticed. The Hochschwab is also clearly visible. High above Palfau at the cozy cabin, the world just feels right.
