Hesshütte
Information
Take the waterfall path
Located near Hochtor and Planspitze, there is a place where you can linger longer. Even without mobile reception! May I introduce? The Hesshütte, the largest and most famous hut in the Gesäuse. The Hesshütte has been in existence since 1893. It was named after Heinrich Heß, the pioneer of the Gesäuse, who wrote the first guidebook to the Gesäuse and was the first “tourist” to walk the Petern path and the waterfall path.
The hut
Either you start in Johnsbach and enjoy the hike to the hut, which leads over the "zachen Schuach" and through a mystical forest. Or you choose the second option via the waterfall path, which starts at the Kummerbrücke parking lot and takes experienced mountain hikers over trails and iron ladders. As a third - and longest - option, the Hartelsgrabenweg awaits along with the bonus treat Sulzkaralm.
