Haindlkarhütte
Information
House at the Stone Wall
Where the roast pork tastes just as good as the Gesäuse pearl and one can also watch climbers with binoculars on their chalk-white fingers: The Haindlkar Hut. Majestically and gracefully, the gray Hochtor group flirts with the hikers and climbers as they take a break among friends.
A Gesäuse Hut as it should be
In the midst of the mountain world, it clings with a view of the imposing north faces of the Hochtor group amidst the stony sea of gravel and rubble. It takes about two hours from Weidendom to enjoy the feeling of a mountain hut. One can of course also spend the night among all the mountain giants that almost embrace you a little maternally.
Hut for Pioneers
The history of the Haindlkar Hut is closely linked to the pioneers of alpine climbing Paul Preuss, Fritz Kasparek, and Hubert Peterka. As early as 1923, a base of the Vienna Section Reichenstein was established. The Haindlkar Hut, as you will get to know it, was built in 1958. It blends perfectly into its surroundings in terms of color and shape. The view is unique and inspires exciting conversations. Thus, at an elevation of 1121m, there is always something to do.
Magnificent Starting Point
The Haindlkar Hut is not only a good starting point for long climbing routes through the Hochtor north face and the legendary Peternpfad, but is also a first-class stop on a round hike. It starts at the Gasthof Bachbrücke, leads over the fable path "Wilder John" and then over a large scree gully (the so-called "Gseng"), and the eponymous Gseng saddle to the hut. After that, it goes back to the Haindlkar Hut parking lot over a dried-up stream bed.
