More information
The starting point for the walk is the Hirnalm car park in Krumpen. The route initially follows a forest track past the Hirnalm. After a short while, a well-marked footpath branches off to the left into the forest.
The path climbs steadily through shady mixed woodland and reaches an impressive waterfall, which is the perfect spot for a short break. The ascent then continues until the woodland gradually thins out and gives way to open alpine pastures.
The route continues across the alpine meadows to Lake Krumpensee. Just a few minutes’ walk beyond the alp lies this idyllic mountain lake, nestled within the stunning mountain landscape of the Eisenerz Alps. Its peaceful setting and alpine panorama make Lake Krumpensee a popular destination for day trips.
The return journey follows the same route back to the car park at Hirnalm.

Incidentally, the Hirnalm is the perfect starting point for other exciting
hikes. Whether you want to push yourself to the limit on the “Grete Klinger” via ferrata (B/C), climb via the
Krumpenhals to the Eisenerzer Reichenstein, or simply take it easy on the
Almrundweg circular walk between Zölzalm and Hirnalm.
