Schichtturm-Führung nach Voranmeldung
Experience one of the most distinctive landmarks of Eisenerz during a guided tour of the shift tower and enjoy the impressive view of the old town and the Styrian Erzberg.
High above the old town of Eisenerz stands the shift tower – a widely visible landmark of the mining town and a significant testimony to its mining historical past. During a guided tour, you will learn fascinating facts about the history of the Renaissance building and its important function for mining and life in Eisenerz.
The tower was built in 1581 by the Eisenerz master miners. Its mighty bell once rang to call the miners punctually to their shifts, giving the building its name. At the same time, the shift tower served as a firewatch tower: from here, the tower keeper kept watch for fires day and night and warned the population with bell tolls, flags, or lanterns. During the tour, you will learn more about these extraordinary signals, the historical mining, and the significance of the shift tower for the town's history.
A special highlight is the ascent to the bell tower. Once at the top, you are greeted with a unique panoramic view over the historic old town of Eisenerz and the Styrian Erzberg – a perfect place for unforgettable vistas and impressive photos.
The holiday tours take place on Sunday, July 26, Sunday, August 9, and Sunday, August 23, 2026 each at 4.00 p.m.. Registration is required no later than 2 hours before the start of the tour at +43 676 935 88 97. Admission is by voluntary donation.
