How were letters delivered before there were cars? How did a telephone work without a mobile phone or the internet? And how did communication develop over the centuries? Answers to these and many other questions are provided by an exciting tour through the Austrian Postal and Telegraph Museum in Eisenerz.

The museum is housed in the historic rooms of the Kammerhof, the former hunting lodge of Emperor Franz Joseph I, and showcases the development of the Austrian postal and telegraph system from the imperial era to the present day. Highlights include a walk-in and operational k. u. k. postal carriage, an authentically furnished k. u. k. post office from around 1900, historical telephone exchange systems, and numerous original exhibits concerning the history of communication. Families, in particular, will enjoy the children's post office and the nostalgic post cinema, where technology and history become tangible in a vivid way.

The holiday tours will take place on Thursday, July 30, Saturday, August 29, Saturday, September 5, and Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at 2.30 p.m. in the Austrian Postal and Telegraph Museum. Registration is required at least 2 hours before the start of the tour at +43 3848 57 675.
