This is how we are taught in politics, in social media, and in the kindergarten WhatsApp group. We live in a society full of winners, where everyone wants to be first, yes, must be first. Those who come in second have already lost, have been left behind, have fallen by the wayside. These forces also influence Thomas Mraz, and so it applies to him now: Mraz F1rst! Yet he has rarely – very rarely – actually never – been first at anything.
It is high time for Mraz in his first solo program to address his big questions: Is he aspiring to be the chairperson of the community garden association? Is he going to open his sausage stand just the way he remembers from the past? Is he old enough to apply for corridor pension? Is he a well-traveled cosmopolitan or a proletarian from Favoriten? Or perhaps both? And most importantly: Is he really such an egoist, like everyone else?
