Christmas in the Depot - holy christmas swing

How was Christmas celebrated in the past and which toys once brought joy to children's eyes? The special Christmas tour at the city museum in Trofaiach invites you on a delightful journey through time, focusing on nostalgic toys, Christmas memories, and exciting insights into the history of the region.

Visitors will trace the footsteps of past Christmas celebrations and discover the significance of toys and gifts for earlier generations. Historical toys, including metal toys from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, tell of a time when Christmas was often experienced quite differently than today. This evokes memories of one's own childhood and brings to life the special atmosphere of past Christmas festivities.

The Christmas special tour is complemented by the general exhibition of the city museum in the Stibichhofen Castle. This focuses on three exciting themes: traditional costumes, medicine, and archaeology.

The extensive collection of traditional costumes presents historical garments and exquisitely crafted accessories from the region around the Styrian Erzberg. In the area of medicine and folk healing, visitors receive fascinating insights into medical care of past centuries. Among the special exhibits are an original pharmacy setup from the year 1904 and historical medical devices.

The archaeological collection also holds exciting discoveries. Finds from prehistory and early history, including objects from the hill settlement on the Kulm near Trofaiach, tell of the early traces of human settlement in the region. Museum Association Trofaiach+2
