The Wild Mountain Mautern
Mautern in der Steiermark
Wild times at the Wilde Berg with 300 alpine animals, a playground, children's barn and much more. If you would like to experience a varied day in one place, then the Wilde Berg is just the right thing for you!
The Wild Mountain Mautern connects a wildlife park with numerous play and adventure offerings over 65 hectares. At about 1,100 meters above sea level, around 300 animals live here, including brown bears, wolves, lynxes, chamois, bisons, marmots, wildcats, owls, and many other native and alpine species. During the guided feedings, the animal residents can be observed particularly well.
A highlight is the approximately 35-minute bird of prey flight show. Eagles, great horned owls, snowy owls, falcons, buzzards, Eurasian eagle-owls, and red kites showcase their flying skills and often circle in close proximity to the audience. The falconers provide interesting information about the animals and their way of life.
The bird of prey flight show takes place in the pre- and post-season from Thursday to Sunday at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. During the main season, it is also shown from Wednesday to Sunday at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Short-term changes due to weather or animal welfare are possible.
The spacious play park features eight different attractions, including a moon swing, unicorn train, giant slide, lookout tower, water play, and raft ride. The 300-meter-long ball track leads over numerous wooden elements and small obstacles. In the children’s farm, smaller animals can be discovered. The children’s barn offers play and movement even in less favorable weather with suspension bridges, tunnel slides, climbing elements, as well as a crafting and resting area.
For a thrilling downhill ride, the meadow glider and mountain karts ensure excitement. The approximately 1,200-meter-long summer toboggan run meanders through forests and meadows with more than 25 curves down to the valley station. With the mountain karts, you can race down a 1.6-kilometer track along the forest road to the valley. Some attractions are subject to fees and may depend on the weather.
The ascent itself is an experience: The chairlift leads over the animal enclosures up to the mountain. Alternatively, a weatherproof and stroller-friendly park bus is available. For a cozy stop, the Steinbockalm offers Styrian dishes and regional products, while the bear lounge serves cakes, snacks, and ice cream.
