Training as part of the KURT project
Climate adaptation coaches: Bridging the gap between knowledge and practice in tourism
The Climate Adaptation Coaches act as a link between the scientific findings of the Competence Centre and their practical implementation in tourism businesses.
Through their training and advisory support, they play a key role in developing tailored, climate-resilient tourism offers and ensuring effective knowledge transfer.
What are climate adaptation coaches?
The planned training programme for Climate Adaptation Coaches aims to equip professionals in the tourism sector with the knowledge and skills needed to address the challenges of climate change and to develop and implement sustainable, climate-resilient tourism practices. By training Climate Adaptation Coaches, the project seeks to strengthen the tourism sector’s resilience to the impacts of climate change while promoting sustainable tourism.
As part of the KURT project, no conventional training or professional development courses are offered. Instead, trained Climate Adaptation Coaches are deployed directly to tourism businesses. Employees have the opportunity to become Climate Adaptation Coaches themselves, while staff members of the tourism association can also take on this role, particularly in smaller businesses. These coaches support tourism businesses in developing or adapting individual, sustainable tourism offers and services, ensuring that knowledge is effectively transferred into practice.
Planned training content
The training programme for Climate Adaptation Coaches focuses on several key areas essential to promoting climate-friendly and sustainable tourism. These include the fundamentals of climate change and environmental science, the environmental impacts of sustainable tourism, the promotion of climate-friendly travel planning and mobility, as well as strategies for resource management and waste prevention. Topics such as energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy are also covered, providing coaches with the knowledge and skills needed to develop tailored, climate-resilient tourism offers and services.
Implementation and delivery
In addition to developing the training content, the project also includes the design of a teaching concept to ensure that the material can be communicated as effectively as possible. The implementation of training and professional development measures is not part of the KURT project.
