Buschenschank & Winery at Herrnberg

The estate of the Windisch family in Herrnberg near Großwilfersdorf was first mentioned in documents in 1712 and belonged at that time to the Hartmannsdorf lordship. At that time, around 20 hectares of vineyards were cultivated at Herrnberg. The Buschenschank operation was also started relatively early; as early as the beginning of the 20th century, there was a small Buschenschank at the Windisch farm. In 1992, the current winemaker and cellar master Siegi Windisch decided to hang up his job as a carpenter and fully dedicate himself to the small, fine winery.

In the excellent Buschenschank, which is also housed in the old four-sided courtyard, there is a cozy room with a winter garden-like extension, a natural arbor, an outdoor terrace, and a tasting room for enjoyable hours. The entire interior was made by the owner himself. A children's playground just a few meters away from the arbor allows parents to easily watch their kids while they play.

One of the biggest hits is Siegi's "Merlotwurz'n," a salami made with the red wine Merlot. The nitrite-free smoked products are also particularly popular. These are not sold at the farm but served only as portions sliced in the Buschenschank. Accordingly, come by, treat yourself well, and enjoy the wonderful panoramic view from the sun terrace.
