Those who come to Schloss Kapfenstein will find a special place to enjoy. The castle towers over a nearly three million-year-old extinct volcanic cone. On clear days, the view extends to the Koralpe and far into Slovenia.
Light, creative, Styrian is the motto of the Kapfenstein castle kitchen. Martin Winkler-Hermaden combines traditional dishes with modern accents and careful craftsmanship. Gault & Millau 2027 awards the restaurant at Schloss Kapfenstein with 1 toque. Especially recommended are the gourmet menus with four or five courses.
The suitable wine accompaniment comes directly from the family-owned Weingut Winkler-Hermaden. The vineyards extend around the castle mountain up to Klöch. From Sauvignon Blanc to Traminer and Burgundy to the renowned "Olivin," the variety of the winery is showcased in the glass.
In nice weather, the toque cuisine can be enjoyed on the terrace shaded by trellises, while on cooler days it is served in the bright knight's hall.
Enjoyment with history
Schloss Kapfenstein was first documented in the 11th century and has been owned by the Winkler-Hermaden family since 1918. Today, this special place of enjoyment in the Thermal & Volcanic Region of Styria combines toque cuisine, wine, history, and impressive views.
