Parapluie observation tower Bad Gleichenberg

The six-meter high lookout, built in the 19th century, is 390 meters above sea level and is thus the highest point of the Röhrlkogel. After climbing the lookout, you will be rewarded with a unique view of the thermal and volcanic region of Styria, and in good weather you can even see as far as Maribor in Slovenia.

The lookout, built around 1840, has a very special historical value for the "Gleichenberger", because it is after all already more than 180 years old! Builder of the "Parapluies" was the Gleichenberger and Johannisbrunnen Aktienverein and after some hardships the first renovation followed in 1882, the year that was also carved into one of the brick pillars.
On the six-meter high watchtower, during the visiting hours, there was always a guard who first presented the visitor with a tourist book for registration and then led him to the so-called large "tube", the telescope, to give the visitor a good view. A white and green flag, which was put out at the control room and was visible all the way down into the valley, indicated "clear view". To save the walker the somewhat arduous path, the flag was simply retracted when visibility was poor.
Despite many difficulties in the past, such as the total disintegration of the wooden staircase, the lookout post on the Albrechtshöhe in Bad Gleichenberg is still preserved and is a very interesting destination for tourists. Today it is cared for by the comradeship of the Edelweiss. The visit and the unique panoramic view of the lookout point can easily be combined with a (pleasure) hike or bike ride, or even climb during a nice walk. For the adventurous, the hike to the Albrechtshöhe through the "Bärenbach-Schlucht" is highly recommended.
