From 06- 08.11.2026 you have the last opportunity this year to visit the castle!

Opening hours (including tavern):
Friday, Saturday & Sunday, each from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The bird of prey flight shows also take place on these days:

• Friday, November 6 and Saturday, November 7: 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
• Sunday, November 8: 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

From November 9, the castle closes for the annual winter break, but as long as the weather permits, you can still take a walk up the footpath in the town center by the parish church of Riegersburg to the castle and enjoy the view!(Entrance via turnstile using ticket machine)

Landmark & popular excursion destination of Styria
The Riegersburg majestically towers over an extinct volcano. 7 gates, 11 bastions, 4 kilometers of defensive walls, and 2 moats protect the castle! The best way to explore this fortress is via the historical footpath or adventurously via the Leopold climbing route. For families with children, there is an exciting treasure hunt with the castle ghost Rüdiger. If you want to go faster, you can conveniently take the castle lift.

Another highlight is the castle tavern with a large beer garden and a great playground, including a wonderful view over the hilly landscape of Styria! The spectacular bird of prey flight show fascinates young and old and completes the Riegersburg excursion.

In the castle, the historic reception rooms, the courtyards, as well as the witch, weapons, and castle museum fascinate:
The castle museum with its splendid rooms offers a journey into the history of the Riegersburg in the 17th century. Two women's fates during the times of Turkish wars, forced labor, and witch hunts, but also of baroque zest for life and festive culture.

The witch museum was redesigned in 2017 to be more modern. Videos and audio installations as well as informative texts now convey a comprehensible picture of an era and mindset that are both foreign to us and perhaps all too familiar. For topics like exclusion, persecution, etc. are as current as ever.

The weapons museum presents armors and swords, bladed and thrusting weapons, rifles, and pistols. Craftsmanship and technical skills from 400 years. Defense and attack, hunting and pleasure.

Tips for children:
Treasure Hunt: The castle ghost Rüdiger has hidden a letter behind each of the 7 gates of the Riegersburg. No matter if you go up the castle or come from the lift – it makes no difference when searching. All 7 letters result in a solution word, they just need to be put together correctly – and you will receive a small reward! Good luck – you can do it!

A special audioguide for children aged 6 to 14 guides you through the three museums of the Riegersburg with simple texts.

Friends' Book Rally
Rüdiger is always happy to welcome friends and even has his own friends' book in his Rüdiger room where everyone can sign. There are 6 Rüdiger pictures hidden in the castle with numbers. Whoever finds them can certainly open the locked chest and sign the friends' book! We wish you lots of fun and success with the friends' book rally!

Guided tours & visits:
The impressive interior rooms of the castle can be visited individually during opening hours (we recommend our audioguides – exciting audioguide also for children!), plus there are also times for guided tours.

Majestic climbing routes
On the volcanic rock of the Riegersburg, there are  5 climbing routes (Leopold, Heinrich, an extension between Leopold & Heinrich, Charlotte & the Gallerin roof) - these lead up to the castle tavern of the Riegersburg at different levels of difficulty. The climbing routes are publicly accessible with your own climbing gear.

The ascent of the Jungfernsteig & Rittersteig is only permitted with prior registration and accompanied by a trainer (e.g. Nature Boy Training)
