Lookout Tressenstein from Bad Aussee

This varied mountain hike leads to the Tressenstein lookout point, a spectacular vantage point over the entire Ausseerland region. The almost square observation tower, built from larch wood, was opened in 2013 and rises 15 meters above the summit landscape. The top platform offers a breathtaking 360° panorama of the mountains of the Enns Valley, the Dachstein massif, the Postalm area and the Tote Gebirge. There is an additional viewing platform just below the control room, which offers a unique bird's eye view of Bad Aussee.

The hike starts in the center of Bad Aussee and first leads in the direction of Grundlsee. At the Traunhaus, opposite the parish church of St. Paul, turn left over the bridge and walk between the houses to the right up to the former Bildstein ski jumping area. A metal bridge leads over it. The trail then leads through a somewhat steeper section of forest to the group of houses on Hanischbühel. Above this, follow the promenade path, which leads into the Sattelweg gravel path. This is followed further uphill.

After crossing the asphalted Hennermannwaldstraße, which leads from Grundlsee to Altaussee, the trail continues uphill to the Gratschner estate. Here the path leads through a hairpin bend and continues uphill in the forest to the Lamesberg group of houses and on to the Sattel settlement. After crossing a farmstead, you reach the end of the Sattelstraße. After about 150 meters, the ascent path to the Tressenstein begins. Initially slightly ascending, the path becomes steeper in the upper section until you finally reach the summit of the Tressenstein with its viewing platform.

The descent follows the same route back to the saddle. From here, there are several options for the way back:
- Back to Bad Aussee along the same route.
- Via the Sattelsteig down to Altaussee.
- Via the asphalt road to Grundlsee.
- A bus transfer to Bad Aussee is possible from Altaussee or Grundlsee..

• pack heavy things first.
• The water bottle should always be within easy reach in a side pocket.
• All things that are often needed, such as sunglasses, camera or hiking map, belong on top.
• An emergency kit including blister plaster belongs in every backpack and a clothing according to the "onion system" is always recommended!
