Altaussee lake circuit

The Altausseer Seenrundweg is one of the most beautiful circular hikes in the Salzkammergut. With magnificent panoramic views of the Trisselwand, the Loser and the glaciers of the Dachstein massif, this trail offers an unforgettable nature experience. Lake Altaussee, often described as one of the most romantic places in Austria, impresses with its stunning landscape and clear, turquoise-blue water.

The lake is around three kilometers long and up to one kilometer wide. To the north and east, it is framed by the foothills of the Totes Gebirge mountains. The Altausseer Traun, one of the three source rivers of the Traun, drains the lake.

Thanks to numerous benches along the shore, the circular trail is particularly suitable for families and older people. In midsummer, Lake Altaussee with its small natural beaches invites you to cool off.
The hike starts at the Altaussee spa gardens and leads in a south-easterly direction to the Hotel Seevilla. Continue along the southern shore through a shady forest until you reach the fork in paths 1a and 233. Follow path 1a to the beach café. The flat lakeside path offers breathtaking views of the lake and the Loser.

At the foot of the imposing Trisselwand, the trail turns north towards Seewiese. There, two idyllic restaurants with charming terraces invite you to linger. Aussee musicians often provide an atmospheric ambience. The view of the Dachstein glacier is particularly impressive here and a popular photo motif.

From the Seewiese, the path at the foot of the Loser leads back to Altaussee. The lake promenade leads past the Seewirt restaurant and the church back to the starting point in the Kurpark.

• When did the accident happen?
• Weather at the accident site?

Proper backpacking makes many things easier:

• pack heavy things first.
• The water bottle should always be within easy reach in a side pocket.
• All things that are often needed, such as sunglasses, camera or hiking map, belong on top.
• An emergency kit including blister plaster belongs in every backpack and a clothing according to the "onion system" is always recommended!
