The Landhaus zum Caphenstain is situated in a secluded location on a sunny hill surrounded by nature and gardens with a view of Kapfenstein Castle. The perfect place for peace and relaxation - a time-out in the middle of nature.
The name Kapfenstein is derived from the Middle High German word “caphen”, which means “peering or gawking”. Caphenstain - the stone from which you can keep an eye out. The identity of the landscape as “Styrian volcano country” is rooted in the eventful history of Kapfenstein and its lovely surroundings amidst volcanoes and hills. Kapfenstein Castle is enthroned on one of the volcanic hills of the Styrian volcanic country. The castle was built in the 10th and 11th centuries on the 461-metre-high Kapfensteiner Kogel, a volcanic hill made of tuff with a wide panoramic view, and served as a defensive fortress against attacks from the east.

Arrival by car
from the direction of Vienna, Oberwart
Take exit 138-Fürstenfeld on the B65 towards Hungary/E66/Ilz/Fürstenfeld on the A2 Südautobahn, then follow the B65 and B66 signs to Fürstenfeld, Söchau, Hatzendorf and Fehring. In Fehring, take the B57 towards Kapfenstein, then turn left onto the L204 to Gutendorf. Turn at the sign in the center of the village and take the next turn right up the hill (approx. 250 meters) until you are in front of the Landhaus zum Caphenstain.
from Graz, Upper Austria, Salzburg, Carinthia
Take exit 161-Gleisdorf West on the A2 Südautobahn and take the B54 towards Feldbach. From there continue on the B66 towards Fehring, where you follow the signs towards Jennersdorf. In the district of Schiefer, turn right off the main road and follow the road for approx. 500 meters. Take the first left turn towards Gutendorf. After 7km you reach the village. Turn at the sign in the center of the village and take the next turn right up the hill (approx. 250 meters) until you are in front of the Landhaus zum Caphenstain.
from the direction of Güssing,Jennersdorf
From Güssing take the B57 in the direction of Jennersdorf. From Jennersdorf follow the B57 in the direction of Fehring. As soon as you reach Schiefer, turn left off the main road and follow the road for 500 meters where you take the first left towards Gutendorf. After 7km you reach the village. Turn at the sign in the center of the village and take the next turn right up the hill (approx. 250 meters) until you are in front of the Landhaus zum Caphenstain.
