Tauplitzalm

The Highest Lake Plateau in Europe

Over 70 years ago, in 1952, the first chairlift to the Tauplitzalm was opened. At the time, the single-seater lift was considered the longest chairlift in the world.

Today, visitors glide comfortably up to the Tauplitzalm on a modern 4-seater chairlift – combining tradition with contemporary comfort.

What hasn’t changed over all these years? The six mountain lakes on Europe’s highest lake plateau and the breathtaking alpine landscape nestled between Lawinenstein, Traweng, and Sturzhahn.

Good to know: The Sturzhahn was first climbed in 1935 by Heinrich Harrer and Kurt Wallenfells. To this day, it is known as Heinrich Harrer’s mountain, as Harrer spent his alpine summers from 1933 to 1936 as the host of the Grazerhütte on the Tauplitzalm – just a stone’s throw from the Sturzhahn.
