On the Klaus Maria Brandauer Promenade, the path leads along the Traun River to Altaussee.

The approximately 6–7 km long winter hike from Bad Aussee to Altaussee is a beautiful and scenic tour through the Ausseerland region. It is easy to moderately difficult, well walkable, and takes about 1.5 to 2 hours.

Since there are some uphill sections, the route is not suitable for strollers. Dogs are allowed, but must be kept on a leash.

Along the way, there are several places to stop for refreshments, such as the Kurcafé-Konditorei Lewandofsky-Temmel in Bad Aussee or the Hotel Seevilla in Altaussee.

Paid parking is available at the starting point in Bad Aussee. The hike begins at the Unimarkt, following the signs to Altaussee or the Klaus Maria-Brandauer-Promenade. The trail then continues upstream through the forest until you reach the Hotel Seevilla and the Altaussee Lake – your final destination.

For the return, you can either walk back the same way or take the Postbus Line 955 conveniently back to Bad Aussee.

It is best to plan your journey to Bad Aussee using google.at/maps.
The parking lot at Unimarkt is a customer parking lot.

Please use the pay parking lot below the bridge on the Traun River.

From there it is about a two-minute walk to the starting point of the hike.

From the starting point, follow the signs to Altausse or the Klaus Maria Brandauer Promenade. Start at the Unimarkt in Bad Aussee, past the snow-covered tennis courts and then follow the trail upstream from the river Traun through populated areas.

Later the path leads through the forest to the so-called "Wimm". Once there, walk underneath the state road, past the building yard of the Altaussee municipality and continue to the former Scheichlmühle inn. Turn right there and follow the road to the left until you reach the Hotel Seevilla.

You have reached Lake Altaussee and our destination.

The cleared path may have stretches of black ice.

Proper backpacking makes many things easier:

pack heavy things first.
The water bottle should always be within easy reach in a side pocket.
All things that are often needed such as sunglasses, camera or hiking map belong on top.
An emergency kit including blister plaster belongs in every backpack and a clothing according to the "onion system" is always recommended!
