4 peaks - 1 lake at Loser

This spectacular circular hike in Ausseerland connects four panoramic peaks of the Loser massif with unique natural phenomena and sweeping views across the Salzkammergut. The tour is suitable for fit hikers and can also be completed in stages, depending on time and energy reserves.

The starting point is the Loseralm, from where the Loser summit (1,838 m) can be reached in around 1.5 hours. Once at the top, there is an almost unlimited panoramic view of the Tote Gebirge, the entire Salzkammergut, the Grimming, the Dachstein massif, the Niedere Tauern and parts of the Hohe Tauern.

After a short descent over the Loserboden and a climb through a belt of mountain pines, the second summit, the Hochanger (1,837 m), is reached. Continuing in the direction of Greimuth, you reach the famous Loserfenster, an impressive rock gate with views of the Schönberg and the deeply incised landscape around the Gschwandalm and Schoßboden.

The route then runs past the Augstsee lake to the saddle between Atterkogel and Greimuth. After crossing a mountain pine field, you reach the summit pasture. The Greimuth (1,871 m) offers impressive views of the north face of the Loser.

From the Greimuth, the trail continues to the Gschwandsattel. The striking mountain pine-covered summit pyramid of the Bräuningzinken (1,899 m) is already clearly visible from here. The highest point of the tour rewards you with a sweeping panoramic view.

The descent is via the Bräuning Alm back to the Loser Alm, the starting point of the tour. Depending on your fitness level, this tour can be shortened or hiked in several stages.

Proper backpacking makes many things easier:

• pack heavy things first.
• The water bottle should always be within easy reach in a side pocket.
• All things that are often needed, such as sunglasses, camera or hiking map, belong on top.
• An emergency kit including blister plaster belongs in every backpack and a clothing according to the "onion system" is always recommended!
