This varied mountain bike tour in the Ausseerland region combines scenic diversity, challenging sections, and culinary delights. Starting at the shores of Lake Grundlsee, the route leads via Bad Aussee to the idyllic Lake Ödensee, where you can stop for refreshments at the Kohlröserlhütte—perfect for anyone who enjoys nature, panoramic views, and relaxation while mountain biking.
The tour starts at the Grundlsee information office, right next to the Seehotel. Heading towards Bad Aussee, the trail branches off to the left towards Kainisch about 500 meters after the Seeklause. Immediately after the carpentry shop, turn right over the bridge and continue straight ahead through the “Gallhof” settlement, up to the Hintenkogel. At the top, a gravel path branches off to the left to the Kalvarienbergkirche St. Leonhard church.
After the ascent, you reach the Alte Salzstraße, where you turn right and then immediately left into Scheibnergasse. Continue via Eselsbach and Sießreith to the main road. Turn left and pass the Kalßwirt inn until you reach the bridge, which leads to the crossbow shooting range on the right. The path now runs below the railway line along the Traun river, past the recycling center, where you turn left and then right again after another bridge onto the bike path.
The cycle path runs between the railway and the Traun river to the fishing center. After passing through the facility, follow Ödenseestraße to the lake. At the Kohlröserlhütte, the tour around Lake Ödensee begins on an easily navigable gravel road through the forest. After a short time, the moorland opens up, through which you return to the fishing center.
The route now crosses the railroad crossing and passes under the federal highway to Kainisch. After the Steiner farm, turn right and follow the Ausseer Radweg R61 bike path up to Radling (caution: heavy traffic!).
At a house on the road, the route turns right into Grubenstraße, which leads back down to Grundlsee and the starting point.
Emergency Reporting Tip - Provide answers to the six W questions:
- What happened?
- How many injured?
- Where did the accident happen? (possibly GPS coordinates)
- Who is reporting? (callback number)
- When did the accident happen?
- Weather at the accident site?
- Before and after each bike tour check the air pressure, spoke tension and brake pads.
- The helmet belongs to every tour.
- Consider in advance what equipment you need: warm clothing, rain and wind protection, repair kit and first aid kit belong in the backpack. Also a charged cell phone.
A swim in Lake Ödensee followed by a stop at the Kohlröserlhütte hut is a delightful change of pace.
