Grundlsee

In the western part of Styria, nestled in the mountain world of the Toten Gebirge, lies Grundlsee – also known as the Styrian Sea.

With a length of around five kilometers and an area of almost five square kilometers, it is the largest lake in Styria. The clear water, excellent water quality, and surrounding natural scenery make it an attractive destination for those seeking relaxation and nature lovers.

Around the lake, several public swimming areas invite you to swim – for example, in Gößl, at the Strandbad Grundlsee, or at the Seeklause.
Water sports such as sailing, rowing, stand-up paddleboarding, or pedal boating are also possible. The Grundlsee is rich in fish and popular with anglers; fishing licenses are available on site. A continuous hiking trail mostly runs directly along the shore and offers impressive views.

A special experience is offered by the Grundlsee shipping with the Three-Lakes Tour, which connects Grundlsee with Toplitzsee and Kammersee. The tour combines motor and canoe trips through an almost untouched natural landscape.

The Grundlsee is easily accessible – via the B145 and with connections to public transport from Bad Aussee.
