Loser

Your adventure mountain in Altaussee

Construction of the 9 km Loser Panorama Road began in 1969 and was completed in 1976. Since 2024, the Panorama Cable Car has been taking visitors comfortably up to 1,600 meters.

With remarkable determination, construction of the Loser Panorama Road began in 1969: nine men with heavy equipment built the approximately 9-kilometer route to the Loser Alm in just a few years – a true masterpiece of alpine road engineering, completed in 1976.

In autumn 2024, the next milestone for the Loser hiking experience followed: the new Loser Panorama Cable Car was opened and now takes you comfortably up to around 1,600 meters above sea level. Whether a leisurely family walk, a scenic high-altitude hike, or a challenging summit climb – unforgettable mountain experiences begin here.

Enjoy the breathtaking views over the Ausseerland, find peace in the alpine silence, or share special moments with your loved ones – on the Loser, you’ll discover your very own box seat in the mountains.

Hiking with panoramic views

The combination of the Panorama Cable Car and the Loser Panorama Road opens up the hiking area around the Loser to you in a particularly impressive way.

What's new at the Loser

In an interview with Ausseer Regional TV, Loser operations manager Florian Loitzl shares the latest news from the Loser. Among them are new themed hiking trails such as:

4 Peaks – 1 Lake

The four most prominent peaks of the Loser massif can be conquered on a circular hike.

This varied loop in the Ausseerland takes you across the summits of Loser, Hochanger, Greimuth, and Bräuningzinken. Highlights along the way include the famous Loser Window, panoramic views of the Dachstein and Totes Gebirge, and the idyllic Augstsee. A demanding but rewarding tour for surefooted hiking enthusiasts with good stamina.

CLIMBING ADVENTURE ON THE LOSER

The Panorama via ferrata "Sisi" truly lives up to its name, offering breathtaking panoramic views along its entire route.

The "Sophie" via ferrata on the Dimlwand is perfectly suited for all age groups – and especially ideal for beginners eager to try their first climbing adventure.

As the perfect addition to these routes, a brand-new sport climbing garden awaits all climbing enthusiasts just below the Loserhütte.

Once the Loser, full of charm,
spoke to Trisselwand, all warm:
“Oh, won’t you come tonight,
into my hut so bright?”

The Trisselwand, so proud, so fair,
said not yes, yet not no there.
She blushed in rosy evening’s glow
and whispered softly: “Loser… so!”

S501 Augst Trail

The first single trail in Altaussee was opened in May 2023 and has been highly popular ever since.

Stretching over three kilometers on the Loser in Altaussee, the trail offers four varied sections ranging from easy to intermediate. Starting and ending at the Loser Ski Arena, it’s ideal for trail biking during a mountain bike holiday in the Ausseerland – with plenty of flow, scenic views, and pure nature.
