Hike to the Simonywarte

Closed
A high-altitude hike with steep ascents and descents through shady forest with beautiful viewpoints.
The lookout was built in honor of the great geographer and "Dachstein explorer" Friedrich Simony (1813-1896) on this magnificent vantage point. Simony's name is associated with numerous prominent mountains. Unique is the shelter of the explorer F. Simony on the Dachstein, called "Hotel Simony". Near it, the well-known "Simony Hut" was later built on the edge of the ice field. Eisfeld was the original name for glaciers.

More information

It is best to plan the journey to Bad Mitterndorf with google.at/maps

The hike begins in the center of Bad Mitterndorf. Opposite the church you walk into the narrow street between NKD and bakery Reisinger. After about 250 meters a road turns to the right, past the Alpenbad northward. Following the road, in the right-hand bend you come to the hiking trail to Simonywarte, which branches off to the left. After a steep ascent of about one kilometer you reach the viewpoint. The well-deserved rest is rewarded with a magnificent panoramic view.

The circular trail leads about one kilometer in a northeasterly direction and then steeply descends south to the "Grasnerhalt". The Tauplitzalm alpine road is crossed and you continue to follow a forest road. After about 1.5 kilometers you reach the toll booth of the Tauplitzalm alpine road. Keep to the right here. After about one kilometer along the village road you will reach the starting point.
