The R61 Ausseer Radweg is one of the most beautiful cycle tours in Ausseerland and leads through an impressive landscape with mountain panoramas, crystal-clear lakes and cultural highlights. As a sportier alternative to classic leisure cycling, this route connects well-known places such as Grundlsee, Altaussee and Bad Aussee in a scenic and culturally rich circular route.

The tour starts at Pichl-Kainisch train station, where it branches off from the Salzkammergut Cycle Trail R19. After a short climb over the Radling Pass, you reach the largest lake in Styria - Grundlsee. The descent from the pass offers impressive views and is one of the highlights of the route.

The Loser rises imposingly above the village. The path leads uphill again to the picturesque Blaa-Alm, a popular excursion destination, especially during the daffodil blossom season. The rustic hut is the perfect place for a cozy stop.

Continuing into the Rettenbachtal valley to Bad Ischl will be possible again to a limited extent from summer 2025 at your own risk. Alternatively, you can take a detour to Bad Aussee: Variant 1 via Radlingstraße (Alte Salzstraße) past the Kalvarienbergkirche St. Leonhard church directly into the town center or variant 2 turn left at the entrance to Grundlsee and ride down the Traun river to Bad Aussee.

This tour combines sporty cycling in nature with cultural wealth, alpine scenery and regional cuisine - ideal for a mountain bike vacation in Ausseerland.
