Bad Aussee

The Bärnmoos tavern is located at one of the idyllic power places in the Ausseerland Salzkammergut: the Bärnmoos, which was discovered as a true favorite spot by Hugo Hoffmannsthal. The namesake tavern Jausenhütte Bärnmoos is situated exactly between Altaussee and Bad Aussee and can be comfortably hiked.

Tip: During summer time, there are currently fresh kettle sausages every Friday at Bärnmoos with mustard, horseradish & pastries!

Hiking & Refreshments at the tavern Jausenhütte Bärnmoos

After a relaxing hike, the Jausenhütte Bärnmoos invites you to enjoy a homemade snack: Regional delicacies, including lovingly prepared Brettljause, various open-faced sandwiches, and homemade pastries such as Bauernkrapfen (farmer's doughnuts) and strudel, are freshly prepared by Monika. Refreshing drinks are also available: From Most (cider) to soda with elderflower syrup, a refreshment with a dreamy view is just right.

The hiking trail to Bärnmoos starting from the center of Bad Aussee takes you over the picturesque Himmelsleiter, a narrow staircase path, up to Obertressen. From there, the path continues along Sigmund-Freud-Straße to the viewpoint Dachsteinblick. The trail then leads through the forest to the power spot Bärnmoos, where the cozy hut invites you to rest in a quiet place. Once you arrive, it's no surprise that Bärnmoos inspired the writer Hugo von Hoffmannsthal to create some of his most famous works.

Tip: On the way back, the Hoffmannsthal Lime Tree is not far away, where a cozy bench and a magnificent view await.

The Jausenhütte Bärnmoos can be reached on foot or by bicycle from Bad Aussee, Altaussee, or Grundlsee.

With the shortest route option, there are parking spaces on the Bad Aussee side at several locations, from which the snack station can be reached in about 25 minutes of hiking - local signage must be observed.
