In the Gabillonhaus in Grundlsee, songs by Clara Schumann and Johannes Brahms, which are among the most beautiful works of romantic art song, resonate. Reinhard Mayr (bass) and Bernhard Pötsch (piano) shape the evening with musical expressiveness and a fine sensitivity for the sound world of Romanticism. Adelheid Picha leads the program with informative and entertaining moderation, providing insights into the lives and works of the two composers.
The musical couple Clara and Robert Schumann were among the most significant personalities in 19th-century music. Clara was herself an outstanding pianist and composer who significantly shaped and disseminated her husband's work. In 1853, the 20-year-old Johannes Brahms comes to the home of Robert and Clara Schumann as a piano and composition student. A close friendship develops. When Robert Schumann dies in 1856, Johannes is by Clara's side as a loyal friend. The artistic and friendly relationship between the fourteen years older famous pianist Clara and the increasingly successful Brahms lasts until Clara's death.
