Vernissage 110th birthday of Edith Kramer

Fr., 31.07.2026 from 19:00 o'clock

Edith Kramer: Grundlsee – New York, an artist between two worlds

On the occasion of the 110th birthday of the artist Edith Kramer, a selection of her works will be presented in the Imperial Stable.

The native Viennese spends many summers at Grundlsee with her aunt during her childhood. Grundlsee is a meeting point for intellectuals, artists, actors, scientists, and journalists; this environment shapes her. After graduating from high school in 1934, Edith Kramer studies in Prague and Vienna until 1938. In 1938, she emigrates to America. There, from the very beginning, she combines her passion for portraiture with her curiosity about the art of children. From 1950, she works as an art therapist with children and adolescents in New York. Teaching assignments and professorships round off her academic work. She documents art therapy in several books.

Both in America and in Styria, Edith Kramer lives her artistic work. She incessantly portrays her two worlds of life in detail and with quality. On January 21, 2014, the passionate artist and "mother of art therapy" dies in Grundlsee. The exhibition showcases works from these two worlds of life.

A selection of her works can be seen at the Kaiserliche Stall in Grundlsee from August 1 to 31 every day from Tuesday to Sunday from 5–7 p.m. with free admission.
