Lieutenant Gustl – Novella by Arthur Schnitzler
Master actor Franz Robert Wagner reads at the Gabillonhaus in Grundlsee from a novella by Arthur Schnitzler. With his impressive interpretation, he brings the delicate language and psychological depth of the significant Austrian writer to life.
The evening is musically accompanied by Johannes Daxner on the piano, whose sensitive playing complements the literary performance in a mood-enhancing way. A special cultural evening that harmoniously combines literature and music.
Relentless is the code of honor of the Austro-Hungarian Army. A desperate situation – chaos reigns in Gustl's head. An inner monologue, a dialogue with oneself, one immediately dives into his world of thoughts, where naivety and egocentrism, clichés and authenticity, panic and hope mix. It's about Lieutenant Gustl, as in Hamlet's "To be or not to be," concerning life or death, a decision to commit suicide. On the morning before the suicide, he learns of the sudden death of his opponent. He decides to continue living as if nothing has happened.
