"Fassdaubenrennen" Barrel stave race
On this carnival Saturday, the fearless masqueraders showcase their talent on the slope next to the shooting hut in Lupitsch. Daring participants in colorful costumes take their ride and venture down the marked routes with their barrel boards. Guaranteed fun for all participants and spectators!
The barrel board race in Lupitsch has long become a fixed part of the carnival season in the Ausseerland region. With suitable snow conditions, all participants must navigate the designated slalom while firmly strapped into "Fassdauben" barrel boards on their feet and equipped with only one pole. This rarely happens without mishap - much to the delight of the spectators.
If "Frau Holle" is not so generous with some snow, humorous obstacles will be set up around the hut. The various stations will be tackled by the brave participants, leaving the audience amazed – and laughing heartily. Whether with or without snow, there is a joyful masquerade around the Lupitsch marksmen’s clubhouse in Altaussee this afternoon.
Masking is encouraged - barrel boards are available - The event takes place in any weather.
What exactly are "Fassdauben" barrel boards?
The socalled "Fassdauben", Barrel boards, refer to the curved longitudinal slats that give wooden barrels their shape and necessary support. Detached from the barrel, the boards are simply equipped with a leather strap, into which the daring participant slips with their shoes. Will this sporadic fastening provide the daredevil racers with as much support as the repurposed board once did for its wooden barrel? A question best answered during a visit to the "Fassdaubenrennen" barrel board race in Lupitsch.
