Castle Riegersburg
Scavenger hunt with the castle's ghost Rüdiger
Where the hearts of children and young people beat faster
About us
Castle Riegersburg was first documented in 1138. Its exact age is a mystery. However, there is proof that it was once known to be "impregnable" or the "strongest fortress in the Christian world".
Guests are now very welcome on the once "impregnable" site. Connoisseurs and relaxed visitors ascend using the glass inclined lift to get to the castle grounds.
Those who prefer a bit of exercise and the authentic feel of yesteryear, start their walk from the parish church at the centre of Riegersburg and pass seven castle gates on their stroll.
Three permanent exhibitions also bring visitors closer to things worth seeing and worth hearing:
- The castle museum highlights the history of the castle in the 17th century. Inseparably associated with this is the fate of the lady of the castle Elisabeth Katharina von Galler, called the "Gallerin".
- The second permanent exhibition covers the Feldbacher witch trial and leads to the "Hexenmuseum" (witch museum) redesigned in 2011.
- Since 2013, the premises of the castle also house the "Waffenmuseum" (weapons museum) as the third permanent exhibition, which presents a collection of objects from four centuries.
