About the region
Ramsau am Dachstein is an 18 km long and 4 km wide high plateau with a southern exposure. Very much like a natural balcony, it stretches out some 400 vertical meters above Ennstal, a dispersed
community with several different small hubs. In winter, this elevated area is a magical winter sports paradise with up to 220 km of tracked cross-country ski trails, broad winter hiking paths as well as a very child- and family-friendly ski area.
Its alpine pastures at the foot of the southern face of the Dachstein massif feature hiking and mountain biking opportunities, scenic lookout points as well as numerous mountain huts. Ramsau am Dachstein is not only the starting point for the “From Glacier to Wine” hiking route, it is also home to an El Dorado of via ferratas, including three fixed-cable climbs on the Sattelberg designed especially with teens and children in mind. A breathtaking world of adventure awaits the whole family on the Rittisberg. The Hoher Dachstein, elevation 2996 m, is the highest mountain in Styria and, thanks to the Dachstein Sky Walk, the Ice Palace, a suspension footbridge and the “Stairway into Nothingness”, is one of the most visited attractions in Styria. In autumn especially, it is also a popular training center for the world elite of Nordic sports.
