When Monika tells you about her award-winning Murtaler Steirerkäse, you learn a lot about the production of this regional specialty, which everyone who has ever visited the Murtal should at least have tasted. In her business, she not only processes Murtaler Steirerkäse, but also numerous products from her own farm. Products from own production: Award-winning Murtaler Steirerkäse, Murtaler Kasknödl, mountain farmer butter, bacon, Selchwaren and Jausenkörbe, homemade pastries.
The hut is located a bit off the beaten track in Gaal, in the Murtal and invites you to stop by in any weather. But even in nice weather you should take a look inside. You will be thrilled by the loving design. When it gets fresher outside, you can go inside the hut for a cozy get-together. Here, in the heart of Styria, you will experience the real hut atmosphere as in earlier times.
For small guests there is a sandbox, a swing or they can romp in the surrounding forest. The Sunnseit'n hiking trail leads you directly past the hut or better, into the hut. For those who just want to get to the hut and avoid the access road (gravel), there is the possibility to park further down. The way is not far and the snack is worth this small effort in any case.
By the way, there is a danger of confusion: Murtaler Steirerkäse has nothing to do with Ennstaler Steirerkäse, the Murtaler version is a cut cheese while the Ennstaler is a crumb cheese - and also the taste is completely different. And if you ask a Murtaler - the real Steirerkäse comes of course from the Murtal.
