From Schladming take provincial highway L722 (Rohrmoosstraße road) to Rohrmoos and at the roundabout continue straight on to the village center.
Parking is available in the centre of Rohrmoos.

Follow the path next to the road upwards for appr. 300 m and turn left to the trail junction "Schußbühel" into the direction of Obertal valley. Without any steep ascents the route goes along the "Rohrmooser-Frei" to the restaurant Windbacher Stub'n. Have a look at the old and traditional farmhouses which a part of the regional scenery. Further on through snowy fields and woods to the Bärnhofer farm, there follow the Obertal road admist the beautiful winter landcsape to Hopfriesen. Return route via the same path.

Before each and every ski tour or snow shoe walk you should check the most recent avalanche warnings which can be found at www.lawine-steiermark.at.

In winter time it is therefore important to also be careful on supposedly easy walks. Sections that are in the shadows can easily get icy, and slopes on the side of the trail may have avalanche hazard. Mountain sport is always carried out under personal responsibility - in winter even more than in summer. Tourist offices or avalanche warning services do not take any responsibility in respect to information provided.

Good winter shoes, warm clothing, tuque, and gloves. You might also want to carry a small backbag with a warm drink in a thermos jug.

When there is little snow, it is also possible to hike from the Bärnhofer farm along the summer route to the Wehrhofalm - this is where the Obertal snowshoe tour runs in winter.
