A journey through the beginnings of winter sports
In three different presentations, visitors can see the development of movement in the snow. Apart from the first attempts to master the natural event "snow" in northern regions, early contacts from our area with this element are depicted here. The hunter, who once coped with high snow conditions in his territory using snow tires, and the perilous transportation of wood into the valley with the help of "Tatzschlitten," is shown at the beginning of the winter sports museum. Following this, the theme of rural leisure activities and competitions in winter is presented. The range of this theme spans from children riding sleds to the European competition in ice shooting. After the turn of the century, youth in the area of Haus discovered the new winter enjoyment on two boards by skiing down the slopes using "Einstocktechnik." With the establishment of the Krummholzhütte, winter tourism around the Hauser Kaibling began. There was still no goods and passenger transport, and the porter took over transport duties from the valley to the hut. School ski courses - now widespread - were already common here in Haus as pioneering work of the teacher Friedrich Kabusch since 1912 ...
