Home and Traditional Costume Association of the Freistoana in Gröbming

The 'Freistoana from Gröbming' was founded in 1921 by Georg Windhofer as a 'mountain costume preservation association'. Even back then, people met out of joy for folk dancing and often undertook long hikes for this purpose. Our task is to promote folk dance, folk music, and singing, then as now, and to pass it on in a form that is appropriate for today's times. A particular concern of ours is to transmit the centuries-old folk culture in times of globalization to the youth as well as to adults, in order to preserve a part of our identity as 'Ennstalers'. We are particularly proud of our solidarity within our group, from which special friendships have formed over the years, even outside the association. Currently, the association is led by chairwoman Anna Sophie Buresch and her deputy Johanna Pircher. The two ensure that the traditions continue to be preserved.

Thus, our association is represented each year at many other events in addition to the traditional appearances, such as at the summer solstice fire and the Altsteirer fair in Gröbming.
